CONDUCTIVITY
.....
....
On larger projects a conductivity test is important. WHY? Ground formations vary, conductivity
tests show what that ground will store for energy.
..
If the test shows the ground will store less energy, the
geothermal field must be enlarged. If the test shows the ground will store more energy, the geothermal field may be
reduced.
..
Here are
the 3 basic steps of a conductivity test:
..
1) Drill (HDD or vertical)
a. Drill test hole
b. Insert/pullback geothermal pipe
c. Grout
d.
Has to sit for at least 72 hours
2)
Test
a. Conductivity test may begin
b. Has to run for at least 40 hours
3) Analysis
a. Submitted to lab for analysis
b. Results usually available within a week

Formation Thermal Conductivity Test Unit
This unit includes: heating
elements, datalogger, controls, pumps
The unit is hooked up to the generator.
|
|
|
|
The generator and thermal conductivity test unit are
hooked up to the geothermal loop.
The equipment and loop are under an insulating blanket to
maintain constant temperature.
