Below are images of locators, bore machines and boring techniques. Since directional boring is underground our "eyes" are the sonde & locator.

 

What is a sonde?

An elongated electronic device that is inserted into a housing compartment on the bore machine. It sends out electronic signals; locate device above ground picks up signals. The locate operator can then direct the bore operator in the appropriate direction.
